DEALING WITH THE PRIDE OF LIFE

Key Scripture: "For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world." — 1 John 2:16 (NKJV)

The pride of life is the desire to elevate ourselves above others by trusting in our achievements, possessions, status, beauty, knowledge, or abilities instead of trusting in God. It is the attitude that says, "I don't need God—I can do it on my own." Pride seeks recognition, applause, and self-glory, while humility seeks to honor God.

Pride is dangerous because it separates us from God. The Bible says, "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall" (Proverbs 16:18). When pride fills the heart, it becomes difficult to receive correction, forgive others, admit mistakes, or depend on God. Pride was the downfall of Satan, and throughout Scripture, it is shown as something God strongly opposes.

The cure for the pride of life is humility. Humility means recognizing that everything we have and everything we are comes from God. It means giving Him the glory for our successes, remaining teachable, and serving others with love. Jesus is our perfect example. Though He is Lord of all, He humbled Himself, served others, and obeyed the Father completely.

To overcome the pride of life:

  • Acknowledge that every good gift comes from God (James 1:17).
  • Give God the glory for every success (1 Corinthians 10:31).
  • Stay humble and teachable (James 4:6).
  • Serve others instead of seeking recognition (Mark 10:45).
  • Depend on God daily through prayer and His Word.

In Conclusion: The world celebrates self-promotion, but God honors humility. When we surrender our pride and trust in Him, He shapes our character, lifts us up in His time, and uses us for His Glory.
